MiCoB is taking 3D concrete printing from research into real buildings, from defence infrastructure to resorts, campuses and industrial facilities.

MiCoB began in 2018 at IIT Gandhinagar, founded by Dr. Shashank Shekhar, Dr. Ankita Sinha and Rishabh Mathur. Their aim was to turn construction-scale 3D printing research into a practical way of delivering structures in the field.

A building is more than a printed wall. The material must flow through a machine, hold its shape as layers are deposited and work with structural design, reinforcement and the rest of the construction process. MiCoB built its technology around that complete workflow.

The team combines printable concrete formulations, material preparation, pumping and extrusion, robotic motion and manufacturing software. A digital design becomes a print path; the machine deposits concrete in controlled layers; reinforcement, services and conventional elements are integrated as the project requires.

MiCoB says its in-house software and process controls help coordinate materials and robotic printing. The approach can reduce dependence on custom formwork and improve repeatability, though speed, cost and environmental outcomes depend on the specific project.

Defence work tested the system in difficult terrain and conditions. MiCoB reports delivering more than 500 impact- and blast-resistant 3D-printed bunkers for defence applications, including deployments through construction partners. Its published projects also include accommodation and operational facilities.

The company says it has delivered more than 650 3D concrete printed structures across 13 Indian states. These company-reported totals cover protective units, buildings and other structures.

MiCoB's published civil projects show why this is a buildings story: a 12,000-square-foot resort at Nagoa Beach in Diu, a 2,200-square-foot store warehouse at Lakadia in Bhuj, and canteen buildings at Ashoka University in Sonipat. Each calls for a different design and construction plan.

The larger idea is to move from one-off printing demonstrations to a repeatable construction process that serves real users and sites. From protective structures to hospitality, education and industry, MiCoB is testing how digital manufacturing can become everyday infrastructure.
